Semi-Final: Clyde Earnscleugh v Maniototo

Clyde Earnscleugh went down to Maniototo Rugby Club 5 to 0 in an epic semi-final battle in muddy conditions at Ranfurly. The Maggots dominated possession and territory in the initial exchanges and were rewarded with a try to first five-eight Jack Wild. Clyde came back strongly and had their opportunites with penalties awarded in front of the sticks in the first and second half but the Rangers backed themselves to get over for a five pointer on both occasions. And their confidence was justified – they got the ball over the line a couple of times but were held up in goal once and knocked-on in goal another time. The last 30 minutes was a epic battle. Clyde mounted attack after attack but the Maniototo defence was outstanding. The big Maggot forward pack looked out on their feet but still managed to repel Clyde who threw the kitchen sink at them. Congratulations to both teams who gave it everything. Best of luck to the Maggots in the final next weekend against Cromwell and Clyde who will have to pick themselves up for the 3rd/4th playoff against Arrowtown.
