Done & Dusted

Once again the Duntroon School volunteers have worked tirelessly to put together the Dansey’s Pass Trail Ride. The event attracts over 1,000 riders to the area, promoting the Duntroon area and raising funds for the Duntroon School.

The Dansey’s Pass motorbike trail ride is a fundraising event for the Duntroon Primary School. Each year it is run by the staff and parents of the school with help from local landowners and community groups.

After making the difficult decision to postpone from the original November 2016 date due to heavy rainfall, one of the South Islands premier trail ride experiences was rescheduled to Waitangi weekend. The volunteer team worked worked tirelessly to refresh the tracks they had started preparing in November and added an additional advanced loop to the existing trail ride which covers over 140km.

The ride which starts at Maerewhenua, near Duntroon, includes five loops including: a beginner/family loop, an intermediate loop, two advanced loops and, for those looking for a real challenge, an extreme loop.

The event attracts hundreds of visitors to the region and proceeds help Duntroon School to commit to activities and resources not otherwise achievable. The event is also an opportunity for the small Duntroon community to come together and put together an event the whole community can be proud of. There were well over 100 volunteer jobs on the day which ensure the event is as safe and enjoyable as it can be. And the feedback is overwhelmingly positive, as some of the comments on the Dansey’s Pass Trail Ride facebook page illustrate:

Fantastically well run event by very friendly people that make you feel welcome!! Thank you again for all the hard work put in to make this ride a success!!” (Justin Hart)

“Epic day cheers. Thanks for putting in the extra effort to make sick single track! Other trails rides could learn a few things. Chur!” (Tom Hey)

“Hey fantastic event…. well done to all involved…. excellent tracks… as first timers it was awesome… thanks to the community and the land owners… covers a huge area…… just fantastic… “ (Michael James)
